Updating SecuPress when you are stuck on version 2.2

Why automatic updates no longer work

If your site still runs SecuPress 2.2 or an older version, you have probably seen an error saying our server is unavailable. In fact, our server is working fine. Since July 2026, versions older than 2.3 no longer have access to the old update API. Version 2.3, released in July 2025, uses a new API, so WordPress can no longer offer you the update. You just need to update manually once, and automatic updates will then resume as usual.

Before you start

  • Download the latest version: log in to your customer account on secupress.me and download the .zip file of the latest version of SecuPress Pro. You will need it whichever method you choose.
  • Back up your site (files and database).
  • Your SecuPress settings and license are kept during the update.

Method 1: from the WordPress admin (WordPress 5.5 or later)

  1. Go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin.
  2. Choose the downloaded .zip file, then click Install Now.
  3. WordPress detects that the plugin is already installed and compares the two versions. Click Replace current with uploaded.
  4. Check in Plugins that the new version is shown, then open SecuPress to confirm your license is active.

Method 2: via FTP

  1. Unzip the .zip file on your computer.
  2. Connect to your site via FTP and go to /wp-content/plugins/.
  3. Replace the SecuPress Pro folder with the new folder.
  4. In the WordPress admin, check the version and the license.

What next?

Once you are on version 2.3 or later, SecuPress uses the new API, and future updates will be offered to you automatically, just like before.
